Have you ever come to a place in your life where you have exhausted all possibilities in your strength? You’ve come to the end of yourself, your capabilities, your abilities and the usual way you manage things. It’s a good thing to recognize that you are not in control but realize that God is sovereign and He knows what best for you and me.

There was a popular television sitcom called “Father Knows Best.” It was so good that it lasted for six years and was also featured on the radio. The father’s name was Jim, who was played by Robert Young; his wife Margaret, played by Jane Wyatt. They had one son and two daughters. Jim was the go to person who had the answer to all of their life’s problems and dilemmas. No matter what happened they would always circle back for his take on the situation. This was mentioned to give a greater perspective on who has the answer to all of our problems, worries and fears. We should not rely on man to solve our problems, but the answer is in Jesus Christ. Our first line of defense should always be God. He is the Father, who knows best. He encourages us to seek Him first and to not lean on our own understanding. He wants our thoughts to become His thoughts, because His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.

Surrender means to give up our inhibitions, our will, releasing our desires and allowing them to come into alignment of what God has for each one of us. We need to submit to Him and let Him have total control in our lives. Even though we have plans God’s plans is always best because He knows the final results. Another definition is ‘to come into agreement with His plan, to stop fighting, hiding, resisting, because we already know that He has the best track record.

James 4:7, encourages us to ‘Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.’

You may notice in this scripture that there is an emphasis on submitting and resisting. It’s stating that If we submit ourselves to God, resisting the devil is not automatic. It’s telling us to do both. Additionally He will protect us, if we resist the devil. It also provides extra security.

Surrendering to the mighty hand of God tells Him that we trust Him and believe that He always have our best interest at heart. He gives us volition, which means we have freedom to make our own choices. He does not force Himself on us or tell us what to do. He gives great instructions and know what’s best for us.

There's an old saying when you're arm wrestling and realize you're not going to win, "just say uncle." I encourage you to throw your hands up in the air and repeat after me, “uncle, I surrender all.”
