Keep Dancing

How many of you loved to dance when you were young at heart? I used to dance a lot when I was younger. To be truthful, I believe I was a great dancer. I enjoyed learning the latest dance steps and newest dance moves. I fondly remember my childhood Pastor saying, “You don’t have to stop dancing, you just change partners.” I believe he was telling us to keep dance even after we accept Jesus as our personal Savior. He will now become our partner due to our change of heart and mindset.
The meaning of dancing is “the movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a given space, for the purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement itself.”
According to an article written by Kirstin Nunez in 2020, she states that there are potential benefits to dancing.
1. Weight loss or maintenance
2. Increase heart health
3. Stronger muscles
4. Improved endurance
5. Increased bone strength
6. Improved self esteem
7. Better balance and coordination
8. Improved mood and energy
9. Enhanced mental function
1 Better sleep
11. Anxiety and stress relief
I agree in all of the ways that Kirstin has identified that is beneficial for us when we dance. I have recently started back dancing, walking and moving to the beat of aerobic music. Zumba is great way to move and increase our physical activity. Yoga, Pilates, aerobics and water aerobics are equally beneficial to getting our muscles and joints into motion.
King David danced before the Lord. He was so excited that the Ark of the Covenant had been returned to the Jews. He danced with so much joy and exuberance that he laid his royal robe aside and danced in his ephod. “And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.” 2 Samuel 6:14.
I’m going to keep on dancing because I’ve got a lot to be thankful for. It will also help keep me physically and emotional fit. I hope you will, “Keep Dancing,” too!
