Memoires of a Mother

It is good to give honor, homage, and a shout out to our mothers. They are responsible for so many things, but they are never too busy to care for everyone in the household. They can meet everyone’s needs at the drop of a hat. They make you feel special as if you are the only one that matters, even though there maybe 7 or more just like you. They are the counselor, teacher, intercessor, chef, chauffeur, nurse, money manager, seamstress, custodian, maintenance person, and so much more.

They are known for their funny sayings, wit of humor and life lessons. These are the things I have heard them say. Please feel free to add your memories as well:

                       • Every good-bye is not gone

                       • Every shut eye is not asleep

                       • Everything that glitters is not gold

                       • You need to sleep on your money

                       • Don’t over sport your hands (translation live within your means)

                       • Wait until Spring to hear the bird sing (Make major decisions or changes in your life after the winter months)

                       • A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

                       • A penny saved is a penny earned

                       • Live life to the fullest

                       • Give God some of your time

                       • Don’t mess around with a girl that you would not have a your wife

                       • Use your head for more than a hat rack

There are so many more, but I am going to stop right there. You see, these are the things I remember about my mom. She’s resting in the arms of Jesus now. She took flight in May, 2019. I will always remember her gentle touch, sweet smile and funny jokes. She was quiet in speech, but powerful in her delivery. She was the mother of 9, grandmother of 33, great grandmother of 63 and  great great-grandmother of 16. The family continues to grow. We have one male child that was born this year in the middle of the pandemic, and 2 more on the way. It is a blessing to look at the lives that she impacted so much. She and my dad were married for 70 years, so that says a lot about their love for each other and the love she had for her family. I encourage you to cherish every moment, take full advantage of the time you have with your mother and make lots of memories.
