Our eyes are a very important part of who we are. We are blessed to have five senses and seeing is one of those. The others are hearing, taste, touch and smell. The eyes are a powerful resource that enables us to see the beautiful world around us. We do not generally think twice about the eyes functioning properly until we notice something is going wrong.
We have the ability to see in the natural world and also into the supernatural through the Spirit of God. We are what we focus on. Our eyes are the lamp to our soul.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23. This scripture is not only referring to our perception of what we have seen but gives a stark contrast between good and evil. Viewing good will render something that is pleasant and profitable for us. On the other hand viewing evil may cause us to desire things and act upon them that will take us down the wrong path.
We are created in the image and likeness of God our Creator. He placed a great emphasis on the value of our eyes in scripture. There are approximately 478 references about eyes in the Bible.
There is a familiar song that we sing often that I believe speaks volumes. “His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me.” We do not have to worry about anything because God is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (always near).
A spirit of fear came upon Elisha’s servant when he saw all of the enemies’ horses and chariots gathering against them for battle.
“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17
I encourage you to open your spiritual eyes and see that there are more for you than against you. I also encourage you to search out more information about the importance of our eyes and seeing the world in a healthy way.
