The Second Half

June marks the half way mark of the year. We can go as far as to say that it is the second half of the year. We’ve come through the winter months and on the back end of  Spring. I’ll take Spring over winter any day, because I don’t like cold weather. I actually don’t enjoy spring as much as I should due to the pollen. We experience flowers blooming and the birds singing in May and June and that’s why I prefer each one of them over the previous ones.

June is considered one of the notable months for weddings and exchanging of vows. It’s usually a beautiful time of the year and as we make plans for our summer and fall events.

June is the month of Sivan according to the Jewish calendar. It’s the third month of the year and is known for the Jewish Feast Shavuot. Also known as Pentecost. Pentecost occurred fifty days after Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and Holy Spirit came in the upper room as a rushing, mighty wind. He rested upon the 120 plus people and they spoke in a different languages.

The second half is especially important in life, sports and yearly goals. Job 8:7 states, “Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end will increase abundantly.” Another translation of the same scripture states, “Your future will be brighter by far than your past.” Keep pressing forward to accomplish in your latter days what you were not able to do previously. There’s still time to get it done.

Sports  teams consider the second half of a game as a very pivotal point so they can take home the win.  They may have made some blunders in their first half plays, but they can make up for it in the second half. They just have to stay focused, adhere to the playbook and work together as a team. Last but not least when we consider setting our yearly goals, we must also be determined to finish the end of the year strong. We must keep our eyes on the prize. Things may not have been like we wanted them in the first half so the second half will give us an opportunity to make the necessary changes.

I had a dream at the beginning of June and it involved keys, locks and numbers. I was traveling on a bus and kept rehearsing the numbers to the combination lock over and over in my mind so I wouldn’t forget. The numbers were 2303 and 2304. When you add the first set of numbers they equal eight and the second set equals nine. Eight means new beginnings and nine means finality. This is ironic and very fitting for what I’m sharing, so as to say that God has ordained this month for new beginnings for us and things will be disclosed to us so we can walk in what has been promised to us.
